Practical software for a primary school and its PTA

Pro-bono work for my children's school: a Google Workspace to give the PTA a more professional footing, a family of small, focused tools (including an app that tells the kitchen how many lunches to cook each day), and general technical guidance.

Closer to home, I have done a range of pro-bono technology work for my children's primary school and its PTA: the kind of small, focused tools that quietly make people's lives easier.

I set up a Google Workspace for the PTA, which improved both how it runs and how it is seen, with proper shared email, documents and accounts rather than a tangle of personal logins.

I also build practical apps for everyday school problems. One example is an app that records how many children are registered for lunch each morning, so the kitchen knows how many meals to cook, which cuts waste and guesswork for the chef. Around it sits a growing set of small tools for things like fundraising events and reading.

Beyond the building, I act as a general technical sounding board for the school: advice on tools, on process, and on how to approach problems without over-engineering them. It is the same minimal-software approach I bring to paid work: the smallest thing that genuinely solves the problem, built properly, for the people who actually use it.
